Recognising the ‘Link in the chain’

As the details of the award of Provincial honours are released each year, it is always particularly gratifying to learn that those who have worked hard to promote the core principals and tenets of the Craft have received recognition.

This year the honours conferred on the members of the Provincial Care team have a particular significance. The team, led by Provincial Grand Almoner Ernie Greenhalgh, have been at the forefront of developing and implementing a revised care system within our Province that has now been adopted as a national model by the Masonic Charitable Foundation and will be implemented in all other Provinces in the near future. Ernie is presently undertaking a series of presentations throughout the Province, entitled ‘The link in the chain’ to explain to almoners how they can more easily access the help and support that is now available to them.

Members of the Care team who are to receive honours, are:

Acting rank: David Asbridge (Preston Group) to PrSGW, Eric Hart (Leyland Group) to PrGAlm, Tom Bradfield-Kay (Southport Group) to PrSGD

Promotions: Ernie Greenhalgh (Lancaster Group) to PPrSGW, Derek Elston (Gladstone Group) to PPrSGW, Peter Fish (Preston Group) to PPrJGW, Peter Mann (Blackpool Group) to PPrJGW and Robert Bennett (Blackpool Group) to PPrGSuptWks.

As the appointments and promotions were announced, Harry Cox Assistant Provincial Grand Master with responsibility for the Care team, commented: “Each of these appointments is richly deserved.  The team have responded magnificently to the challenges facing them in recent years, in adopting and implementing the new care strategy. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of them but in particular to Ernie Greenhalgh for the wonderful job he has done in managing the restructure of the care system.” Harry continued; “As Ernie steps aside later this year to take up new responsibilities working nationally with the MCF, I know that his successor Eric Hart, who is the Provincial Grand Almoner designate will be inheriting a team who will give him the same resolute and unswerving support that they have given Ernie.”

The Care team are always pleased to receive enquiries from any brother who would like to become involved in supporting them in the care of fellow Masons, their families and dependents.  If you feel you could contribute to this essential role, please contact a member of your group care team.
